Well, here it is. The definitive set of Marathon 2 network maps. 26 levels for two to eight players.
Use the following key for our suggested network settings (listed in order from best - worst):
EMH: Every Man for Himself (or Tag)
KH: King of the Hill
KMWB: Kill the Man With the Ball
Here is a brief description of each level and suggested net settings (levels are listed in order of suggested number of players from smallest to largest):
1. Cloak and SPNKR Lo
Recommended for 2-5 players, EMH, KH, KMWB. A maze level with walls you can run on.
2. Cloak and SPNKR Hi
Recommended for 2-5 players, EMH, KMWB, KH. A maze level with walls you can run on. High center walls give more hiding spots and better frame rate on slower computers.
3. Paranoid
Recommended for 2-5 players, EMH, KH, KMWB. Has lots of teleporters for ambushing opponents. Good frame rates even on slower computers.
4. Fish in a Barrel
Recommended for 2-6 players, EMH, KMWB, KH. Small map with VERY exposed hill. If you manage to hit the wall switch when someone has fallen in the moat, it’ll be like shootin’...
5. Splat!
Recommended for 2-6 players, EMH, KH, KMWB. The name says it all...
6. Just Excessive
Carnage with 2+ players, EMH. First of the three total carnage maps. Just hold down the trigger and pray your life insurance is paid up.
7. Blinded by Ambition
Carnage for 3-6 players, KH. Second of the three total carnage levels (i.e. 7+ kills per minute with 2 players). Just try and stay on the hill.
8. Spiral
Recommended for 3-6 players, KH, EMH. A sniper’s playground: nice ‘n’ dark, with a sitting duck in the middle of hunting season.
9. Room With a View
Recommended for 3-6 players, EMH, KMWB. Two small dual-level mazes (a la Cloak and SPNKR) next to open rooms, a pool, and teleporters.
10. The New Dodge
Recommended for 3-6 players, KH, EMH. This map requires a alert king because you must block missiles by running TOWARDS them - not an easy skill to master.
11. Tetris on Water
Recommended for 3-8 players, EMH, KH, KMWB. Dark and dank maze level. It may look small, but it has enough corridors to be a good level for lots of players.
12. Water Pfhall
Recommended for 3-8 players, KH, EMH, KMWB. Get on the hill by swimming up any of the four conveniently located waterfalls (after clearing away whoever is there FIRST, of course). To further confuse the king, use the teleporters at the bottom of each fall.
13. Pseudo Bridge
Recommended for 3-8 players, EMH, KH, KMWB. As close as you can get to a bridge with Marathon’s engine. Good for hide and seek.
14. Twin Powers
Recommended for 3-8 players, EMH, KMWB. One of the Marathon’s engine rooms - play around on the pistons, but don’t get TOZTed.
15. Sekant Pfhlor
Recommended for 3-8 players, KH, KMWB, EMH (play with aliens). Our first vertically-oriented map. The hill is the upper level. Wanna get confused? Disable the motion sensor.
16. Dodge This!
Recommended for 3-8 players, EMH, KMWB. Good thing dodgeball wasn’t ever like this in P.E... Good frame rates even on slower computers.
17. Close Encounters
Recommended for 4-8 players, KH, EMH, KMWB (play with aliens). A map in the spirit of Everyone’s Mortal But Me. Defend yourself on a high, exposed hill with other players sniping at you from the stands.
18. Largely Excessive
Recommended for 4-8 players, EMH, KH, KMWB. Just excessive for large groups. For your enjoyment, includes a hill (so I can stand aaround?!? Yeah, right!) and several teleporters - handy for discombobulating your enemies.
19. Ram Zeese!
Recommended for 4-8 players, KH. Reminiscent of all those pyramids in Egypt - except you can climb on these! Watch out for that jack-in-the-box style sniper pit on the hill...
20. Hanoi
Recommended for 4-8 players, KH (play with aliens). Try and climb up the seven levels of the Tower of Hanoi, all while being peppered with MA-75B rounds from above... Hey, it rhymes with ‘annoy’ for a reason...
21. Triad
Recommended for 4-8 players, EMH, KH, KMWB (play with aliens). A double-leveled arena with plenty of room to tango with the supplied compilers, as well as the other players.
22. Da Ring
Recommended for 4-8 players, EMH, KMWB, KH (play with aliens). The Marathon’s boxing venue. The BOBs and Pfhor cheer and jeer as you either have a close-up carnage fest with the doors closed or a long-range hide and seek with them open.
23. Absolut
Recommended for 4-8 players with fairly fast computers, KH, EMH, KMWB. A large hill may provide some maneuvering room, but a sniper nest and an easily-defended entrance into the hill-room even things out. (AUTHOR’S NOTE - this map was concieved before/seperately of the water map of the same name)
24. Deadly Hill
Recommended for 4-8 players, KH, EMH (play with aliens). Aliens in close quarters? As if it isn’t hard enough already to stay alive as king! At least you can squish ‘em....
25. Pentathlon
Recommended for 5-8 players, KH, EMH, KMWB. The main observation deck from the Marathon: a huge arena with lovely views. It offers excellent target practice - if you’re not the king.
26. HQ
Recommended for 5-8 players with fast computers, KH, EMH, KMWB. Life’s full of choices... do you leave the water level down, and have snipers trying to kill you, or do you put it up, and have everyone nice and close together?
